EPD Insulation Group is proud to sponsor and support an inspiring young golfer, Harry Burgess. Harry at 11 years old has already accomplished so much, read his journey so far!
The 2023 season has been a successful one for 11-year-old Harry from Needingworth where he has competed on the prestigious Robert Rock National tour and in both the European Championships in Vilamoura and the Champions of Champions World Champs in Northern Ireland. After a slow start at the beginning of the season, Harry picked up wins at the Princes Club in Kent, The Astbury, and Wharton Park. He also secured 5 second-place finishes which awarded him second place on the Gross Order of Merit ahead of 98 other juniors and securing a spot at the 2024 World Championships.
In July, Harry teed it up alongside 250 of the world’s best juniors (67 in the Under 12 category) from over 40 countries. After an impressive 76 in round one, Harry went out with the leaders in round two, playing alongside the Mexican and Canadian National Champions. An impressive last 10 holes of 1 under gross in the second round, saw him shoot a 77 and achieve a spot just outside the top 10 on the leaderboard. The final round paired Harry with the national champions from South Africa and Taiwan. On day 3 he shot another gross 77 which placed him a solid 17th in the World. He had a fantastic week with some great golf being played and some new friends being made along the way.
During the season Harry had the amazing opportunity to have European Tour Pro Golfer Robert Rock as his short game coach. Harry travelled to the Belfry and Whittingham Heath to gain some valuable insights into getting up and down from Robert Rock. The highlight is when Harry beats Rob in a three-shot short-game challenge. As we go into the 2024 season, Harry has had the opportunity to spend the day with Danny Willett, US masters champion, working on his putting. Another fabulous experience for the young golfer.
Harry also represents Cambridgeshire and is one of the lowest handicap players in the Under 12 team. This year has seen the Cambridgeshire side compete against Essex, Northamptonshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Hertfordshire where Harry picked up 5 out of a possible 7 points in the singles and pairs matches.
The 2024 season gets underway in March and Harry is looking forward to competing at some top venues again including the British Masters at the Belfry and also returning to Lough Erne in July to compete in the world championships again. Winter training is going well and Harry has committed to a fitness and nutrition program working with Nick Gilbert at John O’ Gaunt.
Harry is very much looking forward to where his golfing journey will take him this year.
